Provinciaal Domein Het Leen is home to a hidden treasure for nature lovers and plant enthusiasts: the arboretum. This special piece of nature spans 6 hectares and includes a collection of more than 10,000 noteworthy trees and shrubs. Whether you come for a relaxing walk or to deepen your botanical knowledge, the arboretum offers a unique experience for everyone.

The arboretum, which began in 1980 with a modest collection of native trees, has grown over the years into a living exhibition of plant species from around the world. The collections of Rhododendron, Magnolia, Viburnum, and Camellia are particularly impressive and form the heart of this arboretum. Each season brings a new display of colors: from the vibrant bloom of Magnolia in the spring to the warm autumn hues of Liquidambar.

In the 1990s, the arboretum was expanded with an additional 3-hectare area, where you will find species known for their spectacular blooms. Especially in spring, you can witness an explosion of flowers with the blooming rhododendrons and magnolias. The arboretum features not only trees but also an extensive collection of perennials and a unique collection of hardy Camellias. Thanks to a walled garden and heated greenhouses, even sensitive species can survive and thrive.

The arboretum places a high value on scientific accuracy, and each plant is labeled with its correct scientific name and origin. Whether you’re seeking education or simply wish to enjoy the peace and beauty, the arboretum is open daily with free admission. A visit to this arboretum is a journey of discovery through nature, where every tree and shrub has a story to tell.
