Arboretum Wespelaar, which extends over 20ha, is a specialised collection with a main focus on trees and shrubs hardy in the climate of Belgium and of known wild origin. The collection was started in 1985 by Philippe de Spoelberch and is now managed by the Foundation Arboretum Wespelaar. The Arboretum is well-known for its extensive collection of Acer, Magnolia and Rhododendron, for its wonderful autumn colours, for its qualitative guided visits and for its fully and correctly labelled collection. Less familiar plant genera such as Lindera, Carya, Stewartia, Franklinia, Stryraxetc., are also widely represented in the Arboretum.
