Hof ter Saksen is one of the scarce closed park forests in the Land of Waas.
Its showpiece is the magnificent 18th-century castle in a style harking back to the late Baroque. The park is some 13.5 hectares with a huge diversity of plants, trees and water features. The entire estate has now grown to 33 hectares.
In 1980, the castle became a protected monument. The castle park in English landscape style has been protected since 1989, as are the historic outbuildings and structures in the park. The arboretum, central to the park, has housed a plant collection with a focus on plants from China and Japan since 1982.
