Bokrijk Arboretum
Bokrijk is a unique heritage site in Belgium, best known for its open-air museum and rich natural landscape. The arboretum, which covers 18 acres within this 550-hectare estate, is a true highlight for plant lovers. Established in 1965, the arboretum began as a systematic collection, but developed into a beautiful landscaped garden from 1985. It houses the largest Ilex collection in Europe, officially recognized as a holly test garden by the American Holly Society. Other important collections include Magnolia, Quercus, Rhododendron, ferns and bamboo.
Within these collections are many evergreens, giving the entire arboretum a striking evergreen character. Also planted are large groups of Cyclamen, which form a spectacular carpet of flowers during their flowering season in autumn and winter.
